About the Event

About the event:

Youth are foster care experts through their lived experience. QPI-MN Youth developed this presentation to help caregivers and child welfare staff create a safer, healthier and more loving environment for them to thrive. Youth will discuss fostering adolescents, the importance of sibling and family connections and understanding their needs prior, during and after placement.

Who should attend? Foster parents (prospective or current), adoptive parents, and social workers.

This event is co-hosted by QPI-MN and Foster Together MN. This event is open to individuals/families in all Minnesota counties.

Cost: $10 per person/$15 per couple

A note about the cost: While Foster Together MN has not previously charged for events, we have recently experienced a high rate of no-shows. We want to be respectful of our presenters time and the effort they put into these events. We also want to make sure that spots are filled when we have limited space available at the venue. If the cost is at all a barrier, we have sponsorships available. Please email connect@fostertogethermn.org for instructions.

Location: Galaxie Library in Apple Valley – Large Meeting Room (Space is limited due to venue capacity)

About the QPI-MN Youth Voices Panel

The Youth Voices action work group meets monthly with current focuses of creating presentations, training and educational materials for foster parents and child welfare staff. Youth are diverse in culture (BIPOC, LGBTQ+/Two-Spirit) and fostering experience (relative, non-relative, adopted, aged-out, parenting youth, Metro/Greater MN). Their long-term goal is that all prospective foster families will have been trained, or have heard from, a foster youth as part of the licensing process.
